Our approach

Transparency defines how we approach every surgical case. We explain what we expect to find, what might change once we are inside, and what the realistic recovery looks like. If a mass requires histopathology, we explain why and what the results will tell us. If a case requires capabilities beyond what we offer, we say so and refer appropriately.

We do not attempt procedures beyond the standard we can guarantee.

Frequently asked questions

What is soft tissue surgery in pets?

Soft tissue surgery refers to any surgical procedure not involving bone. It includes removal of masses and tumours, gastrointestinal surgery for obstructions or disease, bladder surgery, hernia repair, wound reconstruction, and abdominal organ procedures. It is one of the most common surgical disciplines in veterinary medicine and covers a very wide range of conditions.

How do I know if a lump on my pet needs to be removed?

Not all lumps require removal, but all lumps should be assessed. Your vet will evaluate the lump's size, location, growth rate, and surface characteristics, and may recommend a fine needle aspirate to examine the cells before deciding on a course of action. If the aspirate shows concerning cells, or if the lump is growing or causing discomfort, surgical removal with histopathology is usually recommended.

What happens to a mass after it is removed?

We submit all removed masses to a veterinary pathologist for histopathological examination unless you specifically decline. This tells us what type of tissue it is, whether it has been completely removed, and whether any further treatment is needed. Results typically take 5 to 7 working days and we contact you to discuss them as soon as they arrive.

How long will recovery take after soft tissue surgery?

Recovery varies significantly depending on the procedure. Most dogs and cats are comfortable and moving around normally within 48 to 72 hours of a straightforward mass removal. More complex abdominal surgery typically requires 10 to 14 days of restricted activity. We give you a realistic, procedure-specific recovery plan at discharge.

Can I get a second opinion before my pet has soft tissue surgery?

Yes, and we encourage it for any significant procedure. We offer second-opinion consultations and will review all previous imaging, blood results, and clinical records from your current vet. We give you our honest clinical view without pressuring you toward any particular course of action.
