Pet Wellness Checks in Dubai
The most valuable vet visit is the one where nothing is wrong yet. A wellness check is a structured health assessment designed to catch problems before they become serious, establish a baseline for your pet's health, and give you the information you need to make good decisions throughout the year.

What it covers
What a wellness check covers
A full wellness check at Aura covers all major body systems. This includes body weight and condition scoring, dental health assessment, cardiovascular and respiratory examination, abdominal palpation, joint and mobility assessment, skin and coat evaluation, ear and eye health, and parasite screening where indicated. We also review your pet's current diet, exercise routine, and any behavioural changes you have noticed.
Every Aura wellness check is priced as a single inclusive package. Within that price, your pet has access to a full clinical examination, a complete blood count and comprehensive blood biochemistry panel, abdominal ultrasound, ear scope assessment, ear swab and microscopy analysis, anal swab and microscopy analysis, and fine needle aspiration with microscopy analysis. All of these are included in the wellness check price and will never appear as additional charges.
The important distinction is that we carry out what is clinically warranted, not what is on a checklist. If the ear scope shows clean, healthy ears, we will not perform a swab. If abdominal palpation reveals nothing of concern, ultrasound may not be necessary. Every step is guided by what the examination tells us. This approach is better for your pet and it means the visit never becomes a process of putting a healthy animal through unnecessary procedures.
The one exception is radiography. If X-rays are indicated during the wellness check, these carry a separate charge and we will always discuss this with you before proceeding. Organ function changes often appear in bloodwork before any clinical signs are visible, and early detection makes a significant difference in outcome. Senior patients may have more of the included diagnostics applied during the visit based on their age, species, and breed profile.

What to expect
Before your appointment
No fasting is required unless your vet has requested bloodwork that needs a fasted sample. Bring your vaccination booklet and any previous health records. If you have concerns you want to discuss, jot them down beforehand so nothing gets forgotten.
During your appointment
Your vet will work through a structured examination from head to tail, explaining their findings as they go. This is an active conversation, not a passive check. If we find anything of concern, we discuss it with you immediately. We give your pet a health score across each system and note anything that warrants monitoring or follow-up.
After your appointment
You will receive a written summary of the findings and a recommended care plan for the year ahead. This might include a follow-up appointment, a diet change, a dental clean, or simply a note that everything looks well. We give you a clear next-due date for the following wellness check.

Our approach
Prevention is not a marketing term at Aura. It is a clinical commitment. The UAE environment creates specific health pressures for pets, including heat stress, seasonal allergy patterns, parasite risk, and diet-related conditions that develop gradually. Regular wellness checks allow us to track these factors over time and intervene before they escalate.
We also apply Fear Free handling principles throughout every wellness check. A calm, positive experience at the clinic means your pet is more relaxed at the next visit, which makes every examination more accurate and more useful. We keep detailed records of every wellness check so that we can identify trends across visits.
A small change in kidney values or a slight shift in body condition that would be unremarkable on its own becomes meaningful when we can see it in context over two or three years.

Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between a wellness check and a standard consultation?
Both include a thorough full-body clinical examination. The key difference is that a wellness check is proactively scheduled for a healthy pet and always includes a diagnostic blood panel as standard. A standard consultation is prompted by a specific concern or presenting complaint, and diagnostics are added based on what the examination reveals. Think of the wellness check as a scheduled annual health audit with built-in screening, rather than a reactive visit.
At what age should wellness checks start for my dog?
We recommend an initial health check for all new puppies at their first vaccination visit. From one year of age, annual wellness checks are appropriate for most breeds. Large and giant breeds, as well as those with known breed-specific health risks, may benefit from checks every six months from an earlier age.
What blood tests are included in a wellness check?
A full blood count and comprehensive biochemistry panel are included in the Aura wellness check price as standard. This covers red and white blood cell counts, liver function, kidney function, glucose, electrolytes, and protein levels among other values. Senior patients may have additional parameters assessed based on their age, breed, and clinical presentation. No blood test within the wellness check protocol carries a separate charge.
How long does a wellness check take?
Allow between 45 minutes and an hour for a wellness check at Aura. The appointment includes a full clinical examination and blood sampling as standard, and additional diagnostics such as ultrasound or cytology samples may be carried out depending on what the examination reveals. We do not rush this appointment and you will leave with a clear picture of your pet's health.
Do indoor cats need annual wellness checks?
Yes. Indoor cats are still subject to age-related disease, dental problems, weight changes, and gradual organ changes that can go unnoticed at home. Annual checks for indoor cats are just as important as they are for dogs or outdoor cats, particularly from middle age onward.
